Yes, we want to ban books!
This is a school library book available in the Dallas ISD for students to check out and read. It can be found under the subject "sex-fiction", and you can probably guess what it's about by the title. This is inappropriate for kids to read. We are definitely advocating banning books with graphic descriptions of sex, race theory that promotes the idea that all white people are racist and all minorities are victims, books that illustrate for kids how to be gay/lesbian/transgender/gender fluid/etc, books that portray Christians in a negative way, and books that portray parents who don't go along with all of this as being out of touch or bigots. We definitely support banning these books from our public school libraries. It's time we said this!
I met with a school board member in my school district who called himself a conservative. I showed him actual books that are in our school district's libraries. He agreed that they are inappropriate for kids. I asked him what he planned to do about it. His response was, "Well, I'm certainly not for banning books." Why not??? You just said these books are inappropriate for kids. It's like saying rated R movies are not appropriate for kids, but we can't stop kids from seeing them because we are not for banning movies. We should ban anything FOR KIDS that is inappropriate for kids. We should also ban kids from attending drag shows and drag story hours at schools and libraries. Period. We shouldn't say, "Well, I'm definitely not for banning drag shows."
I recently saw a video of a father in front of the school board reading a very graphic sexual passage from a book found in his son's school library. He then went on to recount how many times the "p word" was used in the book, how many times the "f word" was used, and so on. It was great and I admired his courage. Then, he backed off from his position saying, "Look, I'm not for banning books." Really?!? You just stood up in front of everyone and read this passage that you said you were embarrassed to read in front of adults and made the point that kids are reading this, and you don't want this book banned from your son's school library?!?!? I think you do. So say it!
The Marxists have been calling conservatives book banners, book burners, and other things for wanting inappropriate books taken out of public school libraries. They are trying to put us on the defensive, and ultimately, they are trying to get us to back off. When they call us these things, we should respond with, "Yes, I am definitely for banning books that are inappropriate for kids to read. This book (or books about ___________) should not be available for kids." Be proud to be a book banner! Stand up for our kids because they can't stand up for themselves.
We are definitely for banning books in school libraries if these books fit the definition of providing obscene and/or harmful material to minors in violation of Texas law:
SUBCHAPTER B. OBSCENITY
Sec. 43.21. DEFINITIONS. (a) In this subchapter:
(1) "Obscene" means material or a performance that:
(A) the average person, applying contemporary community standards, would find that taken as a whole appeals to the prurient interest in sex;
(B) depicts or describes:
(i) patently offensive representations or descriptions of ultimate sexual acts, normal or perverted, actual or simulated, including sexual intercourse, sodomy, and sexual bestiality; or
(ii) patently offensive representations or descriptions of masturbation, excretory functions, sadism, masochism, lewd exhibition of the genitals, the male or female genitals in a state of sexual stimulation or arousal, covered male genitals in a discernibly turgid state or a device designed and marketed as useful primarily for stimulation of the human genital organs; and
(C) taken as a whole, lacks serious literary, artistic, political, and scientific value.
(2) "Material" means anything tangible that is capable of being used or adapted to arouse interest, whether through the medium of reading, observation, sound, or in any other manner, but does not include an actual three dimensional obscene device.
(3) "Performance" means a play, motion picture, dance, or other exhibition performed before an audience.
(4) "Patently offensive" means so offensive on its face as to affront current community standards of decency.
(5) "Promote" means to manufacture, issue, sell, give, provide, lend, mail, deliver, transfer, transmit, publish, distribute, circulate, disseminate, present, exhibit, or advertise, or to offer or agree to do the same.
Sec. 43.24. SALE, DISTRIBUTION, OR DISPLAY OF HARMFUL MATERIAL TO MINOR. (a) For purposes of this section:
(1) "Minor" means an individual younger than 18 years.
(2) "Harmful material" means material whose dominant theme taken as a whole:
(A) appeals to the prurient interest of a minor, in sex, nudity, or excretion;
(B) is patently offensive to prevailing standards in the adult community as a whole with respect to what is suitable for minors; and
(C) is utterly without redeeming social value for minors.
(b) A person commits an offense if, knowing that the material is harmful:
(1) and knowing the person is a minor, he sells, distributes, exhibits, or possesses for sale, distribution, or exhibition to a minor harmful material;
(2) he displays harmful material and is reckless about whether a minor is present who will be offended or alarmed by the display; or
(3) he hires, employs, or uses a minor to do or accomplish or assist in doing or accomplishing any of the acts prohibited in Subsection (b)(1) or (b)(2).
(c) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that the sale, distribution, or exhibition was by a person having scientific, educational, governmental, or other similar justification.
It is time we hold school districts, superintendents, principals, teachers, and librarians responsible for violating the law as it pertains to minors especially since the law specifically mentions a person having educational justification. Get informed and get involved!!!
