This information from their website is current as of today (October 6, 2023) when I took screenshots from their website.
First, go to the Belton ISD homepage:
Scroll down to "What's Happening" and click on "Belton ISD Addresses Book Concerns":
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "BISD Library Book Fact Infographic":
This is the inforgraphic:
Let's look at the first part of the infographic which states that all of these books are in the review process.
Four of these books are in the district's own library catalog as of today (Oct. 6, 2023). Are they on library shelves? Were they reviewed and deemed acceptable for kids to read? Parents should find out! I have included screenshots of the book locations and scanned pages or publisher summaries from the books:
Warning: Some of the scanned pages in this section and the following section contain graphic sexual descriptions, descriptions of abortion procedures, and rape.
(No scanned pages for Now That We're Men: A Play and True Life Accounts of Boys, Sex, and Power. You can read the publisher's book summary above to see what it is about. It's about porn and sex, apparently.)
Let's look at the second part of the infographic:
Some books were removed from the display due to age-appropriateness. Here are the books NOT removed from the display because they do not have an asterisk by their titles. These books are apparently deemed to be age-appropriate for middle school:
pp 27-30
pp 45-46
At the bottom of the infographic, Belton ISD wants parents to know how they can partner with Belton ISD:
There is no possible way parents can know and flag ALL of the inappropriate books in their child's school library as this blog post and previous posts have shown. The safest thing for parents to do in order to protect their children is to request that their children not check out or read any library books at school, including elementary libraries (as shown in previous posts and in an upcoming post). If your child needs a silent reading book at school, you can provide an appropriate book from home for your child.
In addition to preventing your child from checking out library books, parents can volunteer at their child's school. This is a great way to see what is going on there.
